Sark is a small island in the English
Channel, about 80 miles South of England and 15 miles from France. Our language is English and we use the British Pound - although many businesses also welcome Euros and US Dollars. Most mobile phones seem to work here too. The island of Sark is about three and a half miles long and is home to around 600 residents. Perhaps the most notable thing about Sark is its total lack of traffic. Cars, lorries and motorbikes are banned but bicycles and horse-drawn carriages are our means of transport, with a few farm tractors for delivering goods. Sark is a spectacularly beautiful island with dramatic cliffs, enchanting lanes, wooded valleys - and La Coupee, a narrow causeway that links Little Sark with the main island. With an excellent choice of hotels and guesthouses there is plenty of opportunity to relax in uniquely peaceful surroundings and perhaps even enjoy some alternative therapy pampering as well as the excellent cuisine that is available. Sark is also a good centre from which you can explore the other islands with regular boats to Jersey and Herm in the Summer months. The ferry to Guernsey runs all year round, giving a reliable link with the other islands, UK and the rest of the world. Charter boats can whisk you away to any of the other islands or take you on a sight-seeing tour. During your stay, explore the island on foot, bicycle or hire a carriage - and on your special day you will arrive for the ceremony in a beautifully polished and flower-decorated carriage with liveried driver. Getting to Sark, you can fly into Guernsey or come by ferry from Weymouth, Poole or Portsmouth, then short ferry journey across to Sark. |
